Our Gardens

Garlic

Our pride and joy crop is our hardneck garlic. With some bulbs as big as baseballs, we harden off the garlic and make sure to seed save for the following year.

Cooking Herbs

The list of herbs changes slightly with each year but our staples include: basil, parsley, sage, oregano, rosemary, and my personal favorite lemon thyme.

Tomatoes

We dedicate an entire bed of eight tomato plants for sauce, salsa, and salads.  We grow the sweetest cherry, beef steak, and roma tomatoes from seed and seed save every year.

Squash

Zucchini fresh off the grill is what dreams are made of. Unless you're our kids then it's zucchini bread.  We also grow spaghetti squash to eat all winter long.  Once in a while we will also grow yellow squash and carving pumpkins.

Berries and More

We started with blueberries, and now we have a giant bed of strawberries, red raspberries, and blackberries.  And though it's not a berry it's worth mentioning we grow rhubarb too.  Of course our favorite way to use all of these are to jam them!

Peppers

Like tomatoes, we also have a bed dedicated to peppers: bells, banana, jalapeño, ancho, poblano, and wax.  Many will find their way into our Salsa.

Flowers, Flowers, and more Flowers

What a joy the flowers are for the birds, the bees, and us!  While the varieties are plentiful we pride ourselves on our sunflowers, zinnias, marigolds, peonies, foxglove, daffodils, hyacinths, larkspur, milkweed, lupines, snap dragons, dahlias, daisies, and irises from my father's gardens to name a few.

Lavender

Another favorite crop is our Lavender, both English and Spanish.  We dry lavender for the wonderful aroma, to benefit from in teas, and to add to sugar scrubs.

Tea Herbs and Flowers

In addition to our lavender we grow lots of herbs and flowers to reap their health benefits while sipping tea. Some of those are chamomile, holy basil, echinacea, mint, anise hyssop, and catnip.

Greens

Greens are staple that we have committed to planting all season long. We grow a couple varieties of lettuce, spinach, cabbages and kale.

Brassicas

Every season we try to have at least one of the brassicas.  Our favorites are broccoli, broccolini, and brussel sprouts.

Beans and Peas

Snap peas are grown as garden snacks and rarely make it inside.  We have several beds throughout the season filled with green beans for enjoying and canning to enjoy all winter long.

Honorable Mentions

Asparagus is one of the few vegetables that regrows every year.  Most years it feels effortless. We also can't seem to give up on a variety of potatoes, carrots, and cucumbers. Years ago we grew corn, but just cannot seem to find the space lately.
